I’ve had a bit of a month, as we Brits tend to say when our whole lives fall apart.
A (sudden, shocking) family bereavement. A family diagnosis. A messy stressy five weeks or so, with (thank God) just a few bright spots on the horizon.
It’s knocked me back, which has meant a couple of missed newsletters and very little new writing for my reading public. For that I apologize.
Moving forward, I’m looking at the smallest action I can take each day to move me towards my goals. It might be:
Writing a paragraph
Reading a few pages
Sharing something useful with my community
Commenting on an article I love
Reaching out to another writer whose work I enjoy
Tidying up in some way (digitally or physically)
None of these actions take a huge amount of time or effort, and none of them – taken alone – propel me very far towards where I want to go.
But they help. They go a (teeny tiny) way towards me slowly moving forwards. And that’s better than nothing.
The small action I took today was to write this newsletter. I’m in a place right now where that alone is an achievement. If you are too, pick a small action. Pick, perhaps, the very smallest action you can take that still moves you in the right direction. And do that.
